No carbon storage in Surat Basin – for now

Federal Nationals leader David Littleproud has left the door open for carbon capture and storage (CCS) in the Surat Basin, the aquifer of the Great Artesian Basin (GAB) that covers the Coonamble shire.

The Queensland government announced Friday 31 May it will legislate to ban CCS projects in the Surat Basin over concern they would damage the aquifer.

The basin holds 64 900 million megalitres across more than 1.7 million square . . .
