Coonamble became a leader in equality in 1938 when they appointed a woman to the position of Honorary Secretary of Coonamble Rugby League Club. Mrs E.L. Richardson who was the manageress of the Avenue Hotel in Coonamble stepped into the position and managed the club into profit.
