Weather
Well, Autumn is upon us with the temperatures cooling, it’s dark by 7:30pm and the leaves are starting to turn.
There were a couple of falls of rain last week which gave farmers up to 37mm but with the fuel crisis upon us, farmers now are now not able to take advantage if it does rain again this week.
Very limited stocks of fuel in town and no guarantee of any more being around will make it hardand that’s if you can afford the huge prices seen in the more remote areas.
Birthdays
Greetings this week go to Cecelia Beveridge and anyone else having birthdays this week.
Vale Kathleen Barker
Our sympathy is extended to the family of Kathleen Maria Barker (nee Ruttley) who passed away on March 10th in Baradine aged 90.
Kath was a long-time resident of Baradine and well known throughout the community.
She was the wife of the late Bruce Barker and loved mother to Denis (dec), David, Marita, Kylie and Wilton.
She was also the loved sister of Noel, Claude, Barry, Joan, William (all deceased), Janelle, Patricia (dec) and Ronald (dec) and a much loved grandmother, great grandmother and aunty to her extended family.
Her funeral service is to be held at St Andrews Church in Baradine this Friday, March 20 at 11am followed by internment into the Baradine Cemetery.
Scam Awareness
Last Friday Kerryn Sheaman came out to Baradine to talk to library users about online scam awareness and safety.
Attendees learnt about the different types of scams going round at present and how to spot a scam and report it, as they are becoming more sophisticated. She also showed how to ensure an app is secure and unable to be accessed by anyone else by using 2 factor authentication.
Bowls Fundraiser
On Saturday a large fundraiser was held at the Baradine Bowling and Sporting Club to provide assistance for the family of Lois Daniels who is undergoing medical treatment at present.
A large number of items were auctioned and some went for quite big sums of money.
The family expect to be in Sydney for most of the rest of the next 18 months or so while Lois receives treatment and we wish her all the best.
Baradine Central show team at Coona Show
On Saturday the Baradine Central School Show team exhibited their cattle and sheep in their respective sections at the Coonabarabran Show and came home with a swag of ribbons.
Well done to the students who again had their stock well presented in both sections.

Baradine Show
This week is a big one leading up to the Baradine show which is looking like it will be the best on the show circuit this year.
A number of top events have been organised to bring in the crowds, including Lachie Crosser and his Outback Stockman show at 10am featuring Horses, an enormous Brahman Bull (last seen at Birdsville Races 2020), his performing goat and duck as well.
This will complement the trick horse riding talents of Taylor Escriva and the Sausage Dog racing which has now turned into small dog racing instead due to popular demand.
The yard dog trials is expected to attract big entries again and the sheep section will have a large number of breeders exhibiting their sheep as well as the fat lamb pens look like they are all going to be full and there will be plenty of cattle on show as well.

The Snake man and Troppo Bob will provide entertaiment during the day.
The show office will be open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday to accept entries, membership payments and nominations and you can also drop into the library to pay these.
The Pavilion will be setup on Thursday and Friday. Baking, floral and produce entries will be accepted on show day.
Art and photography have to be in on Wednesday, for judging on Thursday.
Anyone with any handicraft items made during the year, no matter what the item is, are encouraged to bring it along for display as it looks much better when the tables are all full and there is a special section for all those beautiful quilts I know have been made.
The sideshows are also coming and so are the classic cars. The vintage tractor pull will be on display with a spectacular fireworks finale.
There’s plenty of food and refreshments available and the committee are very excited to see it all come together..
Tourist Season Ready
Last week we spent a great few days showing Queensland visitors the sights of Baradine and Pilliga, then made a quick trip up to Lightning Ridge where it was the best time to visit before the tourist season opens at Easter with the races.
One activity I can highly recommend is the pub crawl around Lightning Ridge, Combora, The Sheepyard Inn at Grawin, Glengarry Hilton Hotel, the Club in the Scrub and the Carinda Hotel, made famous by David Bowie – great hosts at each one.
The visitors loved the tiki touring around the ridge mining areas and soaking in the hot bore baths – not too far from home and plenty to keep you occupied for a few days.
Some of the best of things are right on your own doorstep. See you at the show!!!
