End of an era. Start of a Dynasty?

31/03/2026 by The Coonamble Times

In some very exciting, and quite unexpected news, there is speculation that a certain local paper will be passing on, but ownership doesn’t have far to go.

Current Editor and owner, Lee O’Connor is excited to announce that she will be passing on the torch to employee of five years and daughter Angie O’Connor.

“It took a bit of arm-twisting but she’s finally agreed,” said Lee.

“I look forward to seeing what she will do.”

After four months on the market, this 140 year institution may be handed over to Angie who plans to move away from the hard-hitting journalism style of her predecessors and instead give the people what they really want.

“It’s going to be a wildly inaccurate gossip rag.” said Angie.

“With the current state of the world, I think what Coonamble needs is some good goss.

“We’ve got talented tattle tales out there whose skills are being underutilised, and I think some goodhearted dirt dishing can really bring people together. It’s what small towns are built on.”

She will be loosely drawing inspiration from Lady Whistledown and The Betoota Advocate to curate sensationalised, and mostly unverified, stories about the personal lives of locals.

“It’s happening anyway, so why not make a little money on prettying it up, playing paparazzi and getting some pics to really make it pop!” said Angie.

“Throw in a couple of puzzles, because I know how much our current readers love those, and bobs your uncle.”

All we can say is…Watch. This. Space.

Oh and APRIL FOOLS!

Editor’s Note: The paper is still for sale, if you would like to enquire about purchasing, contact Lee at 0428 222 517 or email: locolee329@gmail.com
