AS A last hurrah to the good season, buffalo fly have made another appearance in the Coonamble district with some cattle seen to be carrying light burdens.
It’s interesting that these insects seem to be visiting our area more often – they are tropically adapted and don’t typically live here, but instead blow down from Queensland and coastal areas of north-eastern NSW when there is a wet summer and north easterly wind patterns.
This incursion follows on from heavy burdens first detected here in 2011, a limited spread of flies in 2015, light . . .
