Major native fish release in Barwon River

In a significant boost for native fish populations and river health, the Brewarrina Fishing Club released 12,000 Murray Cod fingerlings into the Barwon River on Saturday, 21 March.

“The last fingerling release was in January 2021,” said Brewarrina Fishing Club President Kelsie Lovett.

“There has been a variety of reasons why releases haven’t been done in the last 5 years -the river was flooded, and there were problems with river conditions such as black water, which made it not ideal for the release of fingerlings…
