Coonamble retailers have given mixed reviews as the Reserve Bank of Australia (RBA) calls for submissions to their draft proposal to end card surcharges.
The bank wants to allow payment services like Visa, Mastercard and EFTPOS to ban businesses from passing on the costs of electronic transactions to their customers by adding surcharges.
The RBA says the move would save the average Australian $60 a year, but Global Village café owner Ahmad ‘Al’ Karanouh says businesses would have to pass the costs onto customers in other ways.
