COONAMBLE Shire Council is one of 86 councils - around two thirds of local governments across NSW to increase their rates above the annual rate peg for the next financial year.
Council's Acting General Manager says the increase was necessary to help the council fund ongoing projects in the shire while keeping their other expenses in check.
Rate pegs are set annually by the Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) and limit councils in how much they can increase the revenue they collect from rates.
