A local property owner says he is "disappointed" after he discovered a wombat dead on the Pilliga Road about 50 kilometres from Coonamble.
The owner, who asked to remain anonymous, said they spotted the creature on 10 December and pulled it off to the side of the road.
He said he had never seen a live wombat in the area, and it was a shame his first sighting was a dead one.
"There are wombats in the Coonamble shire but unfortunately there is now one less," he said.
"I'm disappointed . . .
