Businesses in the region already suffering from a downturn in tourism due to the fuel crisis have been dealt another blow, with floods in western Queensland forcing the organisers of the Birdsville Big Red Bash to cancel this year’s event.
The event typically draws over 10,000 campers, and has a significant flow-on effect for western NSW as travellers make their way there and back.
With over 90% of the tickets already sold before the big wet, organisers considered relocating the festival when they became aware the usual site would not dry out in time for the July event…
