Right to repair reforms welcomed, but local mechanic remains sceptical

A move to expand Australia's Right to Repair laws to agricultural machinery by the Federal Government has been welcomed by farming groups, but Coonamble contractor and mechanic Harry Ferguson says the proposed changes may not go far enough.

Right to repair means that manufacturers are legally required to share diagnostic, service, and repair information with independent mechanics and repairers at a fair market price.

Mr Ferguson owns Mortimer Contract Harvesting & Mechanical and has spent years repairing and maintaining farm machinery.

He said manufacturers are making it increasingly difficult for independent mechanics . . .
