Coonamble ceramic artist earns place at prestigious Darwin art fair

18/06/2026 by The Coonamble Times

Coonamble ceramic artist Kevin “Sooty” Welsh is thrilled to have been selected as a selling artist at the prestigious Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair (DAAF), to be held from August 6 to 9.

Mr Welsh, known for his handcrafted ceramic pots and vessels, creates richly glazed pieces featuring distinctive markings inspired by the Wailwan people.

These traditional designs are closely linked to the region and have been found carved into trees and etched into the landscape across north-western New South Wales.

For Mr Welsh, ceramics is about much more than creating art.
