Looking back through the Coonamble Times archives is always a journey through local history, and the July 6, 1977 edition offers a fascinating glimpse at one of Gulargambone’s milestone moments, the official opening of the town’s new hospital.
The community certainly knew how to celebrate the occasion, with the town decked out for the event and a “magnificent street procession” held before the official ceremony.
Then Minister for Health, the Hon. Kevin Stewart, officiated at the opening of the new hospital, which had been constructed at a cost of $230,000.
