Western Plains poultry farms say there is no panic following new H5 bird flu case

Central West Poultry owners Pauline and Ian Freeth say they are protecting their flock but are not anxious about the latest news of a fifth bird dying of the H5 bird flu this one in Western Australia.

Four have died now on the coast of Western Australia and one in South Australia.

Four birds had tested positive for the highly contagious pathogen since June 20, including three in remote Western Australia – two giant petrels and a brown skua – and a single bird in South Australia.

The fifth case was in a giant petrel found at Roses-Quallup Beach at Esperance in southwest Western Australia…
