Community opposition sees council dump proposed waste fees

Over 100 community submissions have prompted Gilgandra Shire Council to abandon controversial plans to introduce new fees for household rubbish and green waste at the Gilgandra Waste Facility. 

Following a six-week public consultation, councillors voted not to introduce the proposed user-pay charges for the 2026/27 financial year after widespread community opposition. 

The proposal would have seen residents charged $5 to dispose of a domestic wheelie bin of household rubbish, $5 per wheelie bin of uncontaminated green waste, $15 per ute or box trailer load of green waste and $20 per cubic metre for other uncontaminated green waste…
