A Federal proposal to massively increase the trigger for the declaration of a natural disaster that unlocks federal and state funding would be a financial disaster for local councils, according to the Member for Barwon, Roy Butler.
The Federal proposal is part of a package of reforms intended to streamline disaster management that was developed in response to the Independent Review of Commonwealth Disaster Funding.
Mr Butler says councils can currently access natural disaster funding when the damage passes over a threshold of $240,000, but the new federal proposal seeks to increase the trigger . . .
