A youth diversion program near Brewarrina is a step closer, with Premier Chris Minns backing the proposal and doubling funding for summer youth programs across the region.
The proposed residential program at Yetta Dhinnakkal would target young people involved in lower-level offending from across the region, with hopes of diverting them away from cycles of involvement in the criminal justice system.
Barwon MP Roy Butler has been pushing the proposal and recently hosted Mr Minns and NSW Attorney General Michael Daley on separate visits to the Yetta Dhinnakkal site to inspect the existing facilities and met with representatives from Bourke Tribal Council, Maranguka, police, and Bourke, Brewarrina, Walgett and Coonamble councils (see previous story)…
