Gilgandra’s 60-year-old sewage treatment plant has reached the end of its useful life and is under “significant strain”, as construction gets underway on a $28.4 million replacement designed to support the town’s future growth.
Last year, Gilgandra Shire Mayor Doug Batten said the ageing system was already feeling the pressure.
“Our existing infrastructure is under significant strain as the 1960’s design has reached the end of its useful life, and as we work towards a greater population – supported by a new industrial estate, Inland Rail, and renewable energy opportunities – the pressure on the system will only increase,” Cr Batten said at the time…
