In an “unprecedented step” to secure their financial future, local councils across Australia put a letter calling for fairer funding for local governments to all Members of the House of Representatives and the Senate on Wednesday 24 June.
Coonamble Shire was one of 538 councils to sign.
The letter to the federal government asked for an immediate release of $3.5 billion to restore Financial Assistance Grants (FAG) to 1% of federal taxation revenue annually.
