A Walgett farming company has been convicted and fined after the Industrial Court of NSW found a teenage employee was exposed to an obvious and preventable workplace risk when his foot became caught in an unguarded grain auger at a feedlot near Walgett.
Swain Farms Pty Ltd was fined $60,000 after pleading guilty to a Category 2 offence under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 (NSW), relating to a failure to comply with its health and safety duty that exposed a worker to the risk of death or serious injury.
