Goats moving behind the wire

Record-breaking global export demand might be driving a regional market shift in the Far West goat market, moving the local industry from opportunistic wild rangeland harvesting and increasingly toward managed farming operations. 

Meat & Livestock Australia (MLA) figures show on-the-hook goat prices surged from 296¢/kg cwt to a peak of 557¢/kg cwt in 2025.
