High-tech approach to local power network maintenance

17/06/2026 by The Coonamble Times

If you spot a drone buzzing above Coonamble in the coming weeks, there's no need for alarm, it's part of Essential Energy's latest effort to keep the local power network safe and reliable.

The energy provider has begun using drone technology to inspect power poles, lines and other electricity infrastructure across the district, with flights set to take place in both town and surrounding rural areas over the coming months.

The high-tech inspections are designed to help crews identify potential problems earlier, improve safety and reduce disruptions to electricity supply.
