At the National Labor Party Conference over the weekend of 25 to 27 July, the Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced a new “Federation Compact”, a five-year commitment that promises to significantly increase Financial Assistance Grants (FAGs) to Local Government.

“With limited revenue raising capacity, there’s a real danger in the medium term of councils running out of cash to deliver basic services," said Local Government Association President and Leichhardt Mayor Darcy Byrne.
