Coonamble Shire Council says progress is being made in tackling the town’s roaming dog problem, but councillors admit major challenges remain around impounding costs, microchipping and irresponsible ownership.
At the May 13 council meeting, councillors heard that the situation had improved following the appointment of two new full-time dog rangers and one part-time ranger.
Council’s latest pound figures for April show 41 dogs and nine cats were impounded during the month.
