Gulargambone's Citizen of the Year for 2023 is Garry Ferguson.
As he was busy on Thursday morning preparing for the afternoon's Australia Day activities at the local Bowling Club, he missed hearing his name announced at the official ceremony and appears bemused by the accolades coming his way.
"It's an honour and nice to be recognised," he said. "But also there were many other worthy participants this year."
