Born in the Iranian capital Tehran in 1995, Gol Pathanian studied industrial design before she moved to Australia in 2018.
Her family were looking for a country where they could provide better care for her sick mother Mira, and already had relatives in Melbourne.
Like many English learners reared on American voices, Gol found the local accents “a bit strange.”
“I mostly started picking it up as I was working and studying, but at first it was really different for me,” Gol said.
