Around one third of households and business premises in Coonamble are putting out more bins than they paid for, a council survey showed.
“This meant more operational costs for council, less revenue and overall an unfair situation for everyone doing the right thing as they are effectively subsidising the unpaid services,” Director of Community, Planning, Development and Environment Barry Broe said.
According to Coonamble Shire Council, an audit showed that residents putting out extra bins was a $60,000 blow to their budget.
