The first Rodeo ever recorded in Coonamble was run in conjunction with the annual P & A Show in 1934. It consisted of one event – a steer ride, won by Mr Doug Fisher.
The twin sports of rodeo and campdrafting were born from the temptation to tame the wild brumby and range stock that had spread across inland NSW, an “exhilarating test of man’s courage, tenacity and skill” according to the ABCRA (Australian Bushmen’s Campdraft & Rodeo Association).
