Coonamble Shire Council says they have no plans to lower the levee opposite Koonambil Aged Care following a community petition expressing concerns over its visual impact.
A Council letter to Koonambil resident Marjorie Parsons, dated 20 June, said any reductions would need an “extensive” approval process.
The letter also said that the petition’s suggestion to plant bougainvilleas “or other hardy shrubs” along the levee could compromise the bank’s structure.
“The current structure has been designed and constructed in accordance with flood mitigation requirements, and any alterations to its height would require . . .
