Essential Energy say their technicians are investigating how some customers received SMS messages announcing the end of an outage that wasn't actually happening.
For one customer in Coonamble shire, the first message came just after 4.30pm on Thursday 25 September, followed quickly by two more with identical content.
"It said that the current outage was expected to be fixed by 9pm.
"I wasn't at home so I double-checked my messages to see if I'd missed one telling me there was going to be an outage but I couldn . . .
