Rugby league was a big talking point at the weekend not only because of the finals in Melbourne and Sydney but also because former NRL players Gavin Groth and Terry Fahey were the trainers of 3 of the 6 winners on Saturday 27 September at the Come-By-Chance Picnic races.
Gunnedah based Gavin Groth who played for the Balmain Tigers had a winning double with Accrue and Sunday Scaries while Terry Fahey (Rabbitohs, Roosters and Raiders) won with Great Flame.
