The challenges of keeping the shire's ageing water pipelines in order have been laid bare by new government performance data, released in May, on water utilities.
In the most recent release, Coonamble recorded the second highest rate of water main breaks in NSW.
The shire recorded a total 22 main breaks in 2023-24 from 10.9 kilometres of mains involved in transporting water from a treatment plant.
That's a rate of 202 main breaks per 100 kilometres of pipeline in the 2023-24 reporting year, according to the NSW government . . .
