After the sale by the founding McWilliam family, the “royally-named” Harold Edward Oster Campbell became the owner, and guided the newspaper for the next thirty years.
H.E.O. Campbell was born in the Collie district and at a young age became a rouseabout in a shearing shed and member of the A.W.U. before joining the Gilgandra Weekly as a ‘printer’s devil’, a young apprentice performing menial tasks in a printery like mixing ink . . .
