The September meeting of Coonamble Shire Council threw up more surprises than anyone had bargained for with the resignation of two councillors and the unprecedented election of two Deputy Mayors.
The absence of Cr Ahmad Karanouh was explained when councillors were advised that he had submitted his resignation via an email received just prior to the start of the meeting.
It wasn’t until the meeting reached General Business that Cr Karen Churchill read a carefully prepared statement advising that she also would be standing down immediately.
