Can electric cars cope with the distances in the Western Plains?

These days 3.8 per cent of cars on the Australian roads are electric – good for the environment, yes, but how practical are they for regional NSW?

“Range Anxiety” is one reason that the market for electric vehicles in Australia has been slow. In the Western Plains, like many regional areas, EV charging stations are few and far between.

Transport NSW says the average distance travelled each day per person is 40 kilometres. But for some, that won’t even get you into the closest town!

Like it or not, EV’s are set to become a bigger part of the national vehicle numbers with governments honing in reducing emissions.

With EV charging stations already installed in a number of western plains towns, the stage is being set to enable an influx of electric vehicles – and not just for tourists…
