Vaccination has been a hot topic in the news recently, after four major hospitals in Queensland were forced to pause elective surgeries due to an influx of flu and COVID presentations earlier this month.
In our own Western NSW Local Health District, the past two weeks has seen an increase in verified influenza cases, with 656 notifications between 28 June and 12 July.
An interim report released by the National Centre for Immunisation Research and Surveillance Australia in May this year showed decreasing vaccination rates for children between 2020 and 2024.
