A bitter breeze and a last-minute power outage couldn’t keep the crowds away as Gulargambone marked 100 years of Gold Cup Races on 30 August.
Around 650 people turned out for the Saturday centenary race meeting, according to an initial estimate from organisers, where the new grass track shrugged off an overnight shower and drew widespread praise.
Five-year-old Dubbo horse Rothgate spared no effort for the millstone and took out the 1200 metre main race in track record of 69.93 seconds.
