Around the district, the grazing crops have hit their straps and now that the cold snap is finishing and the sun is out, the growth rates of those crops should be high as they head towards springtime.
These crops are high in energy (11-12MJ ME/kg DM) and high in crude protein (20-30%).
In other words, they’re rocket fuel and you should expect around 1.5kg of weight gain per day for a steer, once you’re past the initial induction period where their rumen adjusts and weight gains will be minimal . . .
