Coonamble drover Les Presnell (64) and his offsider Peter Smith (Wee Waa) had a lucky escape last week after he was trapped in his utility when it caught fire igniting the grass around it.
The fire occurred 15 kilometres south of Walgett on the Castlereagh Highway on Wednesday 11 October.
Mr Presnell said they were driving along when they heard a loud explosion and looked behind to see the trailer well alight.
