Coonamble's youth unemployment rate has always sat much higher than general unemployment but with a shortage of workers across most industries, you may have thought the situation would finally improve.
The latest data shows the Coonamble local government areas general unemployment at 5%, however youth unemployment (18 - 24 years) sits stubbornly at 19.9%, more than double the Far West & Orana area rate of 8.8%.
The participation rate for young people in our shire is even bleaker, with 35.7% of youth not in employment, education or training.
