Marking Gular’s place in NSW history

Last Friday 31 July, Gulargambone joined the NSW Government's Freedom Ride Blue Plaque Trail.

Just two days after Minister Penny Sharpe officially launched the Trail in Taree, a group of community members gathered to unveil the plaque that marks Gulargambone's place in history.

In February 1965, a group of Sydney University students, led by Charles Perkins travelled by bus through country New South Wales aiming to expose and challenge discrimination faced by Aboriginal people by interviewing community members to complete surveys.

More than 60 years on, that tour is being used . . .
