Unless they are trespassing in wildlife protection areas, public eating areas, food preparation areas, or are causing a nuisance, currently there are no laws in NSW requiring cat owners to keep their pets indoors.
This could all change if a Bill proposing mandatory cat containment passes into law in NSW Parliament.
Greens MP Sue Higginson said "these cats have had a free pass for a bit too long" after presenting her Private Members Bill to parliament on Wednesday 22 October.
"It’s time to get this done," she said.
