The Coonamble Golf Club is showing signs of a strong revival just 12 months after the ’emergency AGM’ in December last year.
Despite waving goodbye to some committee stalwarts at their AGM on Sunday 19 November, a full board was elected and the appointment of a new full-time Secretary Manager was announced.
Tracey Harvey starts in the job today (Wednesday 29 November) and says she is excited about her new role.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know the customers and trying to bring more people into the club,” she said.
“Getting more people involved in our club and supporting other clubs is one of the main things.”
Tracey is no stranger to hospitality and customer service.
“My first job was as a kitchenhand at the Sons of the Soil Hotel and I learned bar work there from Sue Drummond,” she said.
After moving away for a time, Tracey returned to Coonamble and worked at the Castlereagh Lodge Motel, working across the kitchen, bar and accommodation and filling in as Assistant Manager whenever owner Alan Dodd was away.
More recently, Tracey was Manager at Philpott’s Funerals for three years and has been at Castlereagh Electrical for just over two years.
Although she’s been an active member of local committees, Tracey has never had a community board as her employer before.
“After meeting with them I think we’ll like working together and I know I’ll have that support,” she said.
“I’m here to make sure I learn what the committee wants from me and the club and then trying to put those things in place.”
“I think we’re in a good position at the moment with the kitchen running smoothly and Christmas parties being booked.”
At the AGM, Maddison Pawley took on another term as President with Vice President Trish Butler and Junior Vice President Beau Ewers also elected.
Rachel Jackson is the new Treasurer and Colin Lane continues as Golf Captain.
Other board members are a mix of experience and youthful enthusiasm in Stephen Lane, Mark Ewers, Colin McMullen, Charlie Millthorp, Tracy Baker-Holmes, Liam Mulhall, Ella Cleary and Tom McKeown.
Ms Pawley thanked outgoing board members Naomi Wrench, Mo Jacobs, Nathan Walker, Jan Woods, and Carol Stanley.
She welcomed Tracey to the team.
“The whole board is there to support Tracey, especially knowing she hasn’t managed a club like this before,” she said.
“She brings a lot of skills and experience, and has been coming out to do the odd shift so she can learn the ropes.
“The Board is excited to have a manager again after five months so they can concentrate on board duties rather than just keeping the door open.
“We’re committed to making sure it continues to be a family-friendly venue and a place that can be well-used by other clubs and the community.”
While Tracey has a few weeks to find her feet, she will also be working towards her first major event at the Club on New Year’s Eve with live music starting just after lunch.
