THE latest Annual General Meeting of Coonamble District Chamber of Commerce has seen a new President elected to lead the organisation over the next twelve months.
Local entrepreneur Lucy Moss (Mink & Me) has taken over from Co-Presidents Lee O’Connor (Coonamble Times) and Rodney Vallett (Coonamble Cellars), with the two former Presidents moving to Vice President roles.
The AGM, held at the Bucking Bull Hotel last Thursday 5 May, also saw Rachael Buckley (Swannys Foods) re-elected as Secretary while the Treasurer position remains vacant for the time being after Joanne Day (Halcroft & Bennett) stepped down.
The meeting also accepted the resignation of Administration Officer Maddison Pawley and appointed Amanda Glasson to the role.
Mrs Moss says she joined the Chamber when she opened her business around seven years ago and has also held the Vice President position for “at least a couple of years”.
“I started as a member and got recruited to the other roles,” she said. “Being in business in Coonamble can be a pretty exciting prospect and I am happy to take the reins for a while.”
“I plan to keep continuing the good work that we’ve established as a committee in the past few years.
“We’ll keep pushing the Buy Local message and the Business Awards, it’s such a massive event, attended by and really valued by so many business owners.”
“I’ll continue to speak up for business rights and pushing anything to progress the town,” she said.
“I’m glad Lee and Rodney are still around to help and guide us through. We look forward to a prosperous year.”
Mr Vallett and Mrs O’Connor say they welcome Mrs Moss to the job.
“Lucy is a smart girl who thinks outside the square, she’s done it in her own business and she’s a people person so she should be good for the Chamber.”
“Now we just need more of our other members to come to meetings and voice their opinions,” he said.
Mrs O’Connor said that as an organisation with a large membership there are many opportunities to make things better for local business.
“We’ve always had seventy to eighty members, which is pretty amazing for a small town,” she said.
“We’re looking forward to the coming year with Lucy as President.”
