Coonamble Shire says it is turning scrap metal into a resource in an effort reduce landfill and put money back into Shire coffers.
So far it has gathered 200 tonnes of metal to sell in a recycling partnership with NetWaste.
Council says removing scrap metal will also prevent ground water pollution, conserve resources and save energy on mining new resources.
