Coonamble Shire Council remains the reluctant owner of a prime piece of real estate in Coonamble's main street but Mayor Danny Keady hopes that it won't be for long.
At around 1800 square metres the former Sons of the Soil Hotel site has the largest footprint in the street.
The deal struck by the previous council to sell the site to a Melbourne-based developer did not eventuate, however Cr Keady says the aim of reactivating the building in order to reinvigorate the main street remain a high priority.
