A petition calling to halt the purchase of land for more National Parks in the far north west is gaining traction around the region.The petition is being led by Bourke Shire Mayor Lachlan Ford, backed by councillors in the town, and Cobar locals have also weighed in.The NSW government recently invested $11.7 million to acquire and retire three pastoral stations, totalling 34,773 hectares:
- Bellenbar – 13,674 ha (Bourke Shire)
- Iona – 13,456 hs (near Cobar)
- Innisfail – 7,643 ha (near Brewarrina)
