Rainfall totals across the district in May ranged from 40 to 100 mm, representing the best general rain across the district in 13 months.

It is a welcome boost for pastures and forage crops, giving them a chance to establish, lift fodder production, and improve ground cover.

For grain growers, however, it is only a starting point, with limited stored soil moisture still leaving production prospects uncertain.

That makes risk management especially important.

In farming, this means identifying, monitoring, and managing threats to production and profitability.
